Arizona Diamondbacks Outlook
Arizona has a shot at something they haven’t done in five years: sweep a series in Atlanta. After taking the first two games, the D-backs are riding high into Thursday’s finale, and they’re sending Brandon Pfaadt to the mound, despite his last start being an unmitigated disaster. Pfaadt couldn’t get a single out against Washington, getting lit up for eight runs and seeing his ERA balloon from 3.90 to 5.05.
That said, manager Torey Lovullo isn’t worried. Pfaadt already handled the Braves once this season and is 2-0 in three career starts against them with a respectable 3.57 ERA. Arizona has won the season series 3-2 and is gunning for the sweep.
Atlanta Braves Outlook
The Braves are unraveling fast. After losing 10 of their last 13, including getting held to just three hits in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss, this team’s once-fearsome offense has evaporated. They’ve scored a total of 45 runs with just 13 home runs in their last 13 games, often failing to get anything going at the plate.
Grant Holmes gets the start and has been mostly solid recently. He’s held opponents to three runs or fewer in five of his last six starts and just struck out nine against Boston. However, Holmes allowed six runs in a no-decision against Arizona earlier this year, and his 5.40 ERA in three appearances against the D-backs doesn’t inspire confidence.

The Diamondbacks are trending up while the Braves look stuck in neutral. If Pfaadt rebounds even modestly and Arizona’s bats stay hot, the sweep is absolutely on the table. Take the plus money on the road team to seal the deal.
