Game Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to turn things around after a recent sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays as they aim for a three-game sweep against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery (8-6, 6.25 ERA) will take the mound for Arizona. He has a strong track record against the Marlins, holding a 2-0 record and a 2.35 ERA in four career appearances, including a 1.80 ERA in one start in Miami.

Montgomery initially sought a long-term deal but signed a one-year, $25 million contract in March, later parting ways with agent Scott Boras. His performance has fluctuated this season; he started strong with a 2.77 ERA but struggled in the following months, posting a 7.00 ERA or higher from May to July. However, he has shown improvement this month with a 4.91 ERA.

To bolster their infield depth, the Diamondbacks recently added infielder Luis Guillorme to the roster while star second baseman Ketel Marte is on the injured list due to an ankle injury. Manager Torey Lovullo praised Guillorme’s ability to control counts and make plays defensively.

Outfielder Corbin Carroll is on a hot streak, hitting five home runs in his last 10 games. Although he was named the National League’s Rookie of the Year last season, he is currently batting just .221 this year with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Carroll is set to face Marlins right-hander Roddery Munoz (2-7, 5.88), who has struggled this season. Miami has a 4-12 record when Munoz pitches, and he has a 6.63 ERA in eight home games.

The Marlins received a boost from rookie third baseman Connor Norby on Tuesday, who hit two doubles. Manager Skip Schumaker commended Norby’s confidence and work ethic, noting his impressive performance in Triple-A before joining the Marlins.

Norby, acquired from the Orioles, had a productive season in Triple-A, hitting 24 doubles and 17 home runs. Schumaker appreciates the competitive edge Norby brings to the team.
