Game Preview

Fueled by Cedric Mullins’ two homers, the Baltimore Orioles look to secure a series victory against the Boston Red Sox in the final game of their three-part series this Wednesday.

Following a 5-3 win over Boston, combined with a Royals’ triumph over the Yankees, Baltimore now trails New York by just half a game atop the AL East standings.

Mullins’ performance helped snap a three-game losing streak for the Orioles (83-63), who had managed just seven runs across their previous five games. "Cedric has been really solid at the plate these last few weeks, and he played a crucial role for us tonight," said Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. "Although we didn’t push as many runs across as we’d like, I’m pleased with how we’re moving the runners and taking our walks."

Mullins launched a solo homer and a two-run blast against Boston’s Kutter Crawford, the major league leader in home runs allowed with 31 this season. It marked Mullins’ fifth career game with multiple home runs.

Reflecting on his night, Mullins commented, "I managed to connect really well today, which really lifted the team’s spirits. It’s a great momentum boost going into tomorrow."

On the other side, the Red Sox (73-72) struck out 10 times in Tuesday’s loss, sliding further behind in the wild-card race, now four games back of the Twins.

Boston’s manager Alex Cora expressed his frustration with the team’s faltering offense, noting, "We consider ourselves a strong offensive team, and earlier this year, we really felt like we could rack up runs against righties. But lately, we haven’t been able to do that, and it’s a tough pill to swallow when everyone is struggling simultaneously."

Looking ahead to Wednesday, Baltimore will send Dean Kremer (7-9, 4.27 ERA) to the mound, coming off a strong start against Tampa Bay where he pitched six no-hit innings. Kremer has a mixed record against Boston, holding a 1-1 record and a 6.45 ERA in eight career starts.

Facing him will be Boston’s Nick Pivetta (5-10, 4.38 ERA), who is coming off a six-inning, one-run outing against the White Sox. Pivetta boasts an 8-3 record and a 3.33 ERA in 13 starts against the Orioles, although he took a loss in his last outing against them in mid-August.
