Game Preview
Following a mixed day, the Baltimore Orioles are set to embark on a 10-game road trip, beginning with a four-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday.
On a positive note, the Orioles, leading the American League East, secured a 10-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, marking their fourth win in five games. The game saw the return of Jackson Holliday, who made a strong comeback by hitting a grand slam, a dramatic improvement from his earlier struggles.
"It’s pretty surreal," Holliday remarked. "I couldn’t have imagined a better first home run. It’s exciting to contribute to the team’s win."
However, the victory was overshadowed by the injury to All-Star third baseman Jordan Westburg, who suffered a fractured right hand from a pitch. Manager Brandon Hyde remains hopeful that Westburg will return by the end of the season, but for now, the team will need others to step up in his absence.
While the Orioles faced highs and lows, the Guardians enjoyed a break after securing their third consecutive win and sixth in eight games with a 5-0 triumph over the Detroit Tigers. Jose Ramirez, Josh Naylor, and Brayan Rocchio each hit home runs, with Naylor making a notable return after missing a series against the Phillies.
The Guardians will start right-hander Ben Lively (9-6, 3.44 ERA) on Thursday. Lively recently ended a two-game losing streak with a solid performance, allowing just one run over six innings in a win against the Phillies. He has not faced the Orioles in his career.
