Baltimore Orioles Betting Outlook

The Orioles embraced development mode at the trade deadline, and Friday night’s 7-0 win in Houston gave them exactly the type of progress they wanted to see. Rookie Brandon Young nearly authored history, taking a perfect game into the eighth inning before settling for his first career win. His eight innings of one-hit ball showed the kind of growth Baltimore’s staff is counting on.

On Saturday, Baltimore will turn to a bullpen opener, with Rico Garcia starting before giving way to lefty Cade Povich (2-6, 4.95 ERA). Povich pitched well in his last outing, tossing six innings of one-run ball against Oakland, but he hasn’t picked up a win in nine straight starts. Against Houston earlier this year, he allowed five runs over five innings in a no-decision. The O’s will need him to limit damage while their young bats look to build on Friday’s breakout.

Houston Astros Betting Outlook

The Astros enter as -141 moneyline favorites with the total at 8.5, but inconsistency has defined their season. They’ve been shut out late in two of their last four home games and have been hampered by injuries, most notably to closer Josh Hader, who’s sidelined with a shoulder issue.

Right-hander Jason Alexander (3-1, 5.02 ERA) takes the mound after back-to-back scoreless outings. Since joining Houston’s rotation, he’s been solid, posting a 2.83 ERA over 28 2/3 innings, including six shutout frames in his last two starts. This will be his first career appearance against the Orioles, giving him the element of surprise against Baltimore’s young lineup.

While Houston’s offense can explode at any moment, their recent struggles against rookie pitchers, including being silenced by Young on Friday raise concerns about consistency.

Prediction & Betting Angle

Baltimore is playing loose with its young core, while Houston remains unpredictable. With Alexander pitching well and the Astros desperate to rebound, the favorite has the edge, but expect a competitive contest.

Score Prediction: Astros 5, Orioles 3
Pick: Houston -1.5 (+140)
