Game Preview
The Baltimore Orioles are counting on Jackson Holliday to keep his hot streak going as they face the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday in the final game of their three-game series.
The 20-year-old second baseman, who was recently recalled from Triple-A Norfolk, has hit all four of his major league home runs since his return, including three against the Blue Jays. His latest was a two-run homer in the seventh inning of Baltimore’s 7-3 win on Wednesday.
Holliday’s recent performance includes homering in three consecutive games, making him the youngest player in the American League to achieve this feat. Over his last seven games, he’s batting .375 with four homers and 10 RBIs, a significant improvement from his earlier stint in April.
Meanwhile, Anthony Santander is also in excellent form, having hit two home runs and driven in three runs on Wednesday. His second home run was his 34th of the season, setting a new career high. Santander also made a key defensive play, catching a drive from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to preserve the Orioles’ lead.
Guerrero extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a 1-for-3 performance, raising his average to .493 during the streak. He played third base on Wednesday, committing two errors, and his future at that position remains uncertain.
Toronto will start Kevin Gausman (9-8, 4.56 ERA), who has struggled against the Orioles with a 5.35 ERA in six career starts. The Orioles will counter with Dean Kremer (4-8, 4.39 ERA), who has a 4.35 ERA in 10 career games against Toronto.
Baltimore also made several roster moves, placing right-handers Grayson Rodriguez and Jacob Webb and outfielder Heston Kjerstad on the injured list, while recalling Bryan Baker and Keegan Akin from Triple-A Norfolk and signing infielder J.D. Davis to a minor league contract.
