Game Preview

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was pleased with the performance of his lineup’s lower half on Saturday night and hopes for a repeat as the Rangers finish their series with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in Arlington.

After a rough stretch, losing three of their last four games and six of their past seven, the Rangers bounced back with a 7-4 win over the Red Sox. Key contributions came from the bottom of the order: Jonah Heim and Leody Taveras both hit home runs in the fourth inning. Heim, batting eighth, added two hits and a three-run homer, while Taveras, in the ninth spot, also drove in two runs.

"It’s an area where we’ve struggled this year, but we saw the production we needed tonight," Bochy said. "It’s about everyone stepping up and making a contribution."

Heim, who hadn’t played in the previous two games, was instrumental in the victory. "Every homer counts, especially against strong teams like this. We had to keep scoring and pitching well," Heim said.

The Red Sox, who had beaten the Rangers 11-6 the previous day, got four hits from Rob Refsnyder on Saturday, including two solo home runs.

Sunday’s game features a matchup between right-handers: Boston’s Nick Pivetta (5-7, 4.47 ERA) and Texas’ Nathan Eovaldi (8-4, 3.38 ERA). Pivetta has a strong record against the Rangers, with a 1-0 record and 1.84 ERA in three career starts. Eovaldi, who joined the Rangers after the 2022 season, is 3-0 with a 4.85 ERA in nine games against Boston.
