Game Preview

The Chicago Cubs have regained momentum and aim to continue their success in the second game of the interleague series against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.

The Cubs dominated with a 9-2 victory in the series opener on Tuesday night, collecting 14 hits. This win marked their fourth in the last five games, their best run since a four-game winning streak in late April. Additionally, it was only their third victory in the past nine road games.

Wednesday’s game will feature a duel between 2024 All-Star pitchers: Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga (7-2, 3.16 ERA) and Orioles right-hander Corbin Burnes (9-3, 2.32 ERA).

Imanaga, who was initially scheduled to pitch Tuesday, gets an extra day of rest due to Chicago having Monday off. The 30-year-old rookie hasn’t pitched since July 3, making him well-rested for his final start before heading to the All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas, next week.

"It’s really about his attitude," Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. "He has a great attitude every single game. He’s a learner, curious, and always looking to improve. He wants more and always tries to do a little better."

Imanaga, the first Cubs rookie All-Star since Kris Bryant in 2015, is looking for his first win since June 15 and will be facing Baltimore for the first time.

Burnes, seeking his 10th win, will make another attempt after a no-decision last Thursday, where he pitched six innings and allowed two runs in the Orioles’ eventual loss to the Seattle Mariners.
