Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Cubs (62-43) enter this showdown tied with Milwaukee for the best record in the National League. Chicago comes off a series win over the White Sox and now looks to extend its dominance against divisional rivals, having already taken three of five matchups against the Brewers this season.

Matthew Boyd (11-3, 2.20 ERA) has been nothing short of dominant. The veteran lefty is riding a streak of 23 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest active run in MLB. Boyd was sensational in his last outing, throwing seven scoreless frames with pinpoint command in a 6-0 win over the Royals.

Chicago’s lineup has been energized by rookie third baseman Matt Shaw, who’s on fire with a .444 average (12-for-27), four home runs, and 10 RBIs during his nine-game hitting streak. If Boyd continues to pound the zone and Shaw’s bat stays hot, Chicago could control this game early.

Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview

Milwaukee (62-43) avoided a sweep by edging Miami 3-2 on Sunday, but the Brewers face their toughest test in weeks. Rookie sensation Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 2.45 ERA) takes the ball, aiming to cap off his impressive first season. The 23-year-old has struck out 40 batters over 29 1/3 innings and brings an electric mix of velocity and movement.

While Misiorowski is still on a pitch count, he’s proven capable of overpowering lineups. His 3 2/3 scoreless innings against Seattle last week showcased his ability to escape jams and miss bats with ease. The Brewers’ offense will look to back him up, with Jackson Chourio leading the way. Chourio extended his hitting streak to 20 games, the longest by a Brewers player 21 or younger since 1901.

Prediction

This series opener has all the makings of a playoff atmosphere. Boyd’s historic run and Chicago’s depth give them a slight edge, but Milwaukee’s home-field advantage and Misiorowski’s dominance make it a tight contest.

Score Prediction: Cubs 4, Brewers 3
