Game Preview

The Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers, both showcasing impressive road power, are set to kick off a three-game series on Friday night.

The Brewers, fresh off a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves, posted an astounding 34 runs, 52 hits, and eight home runs. Milwaukee’s performance marked the highest number of hits in a three-game series since the 2015 Boston Red Sox, with at least 16 hits in each game. Rookie Jackson Chourio shone brightly, contributing three hits, including two home runs, in a 16-7 win on Thursday. Over his last 16 games, Chourio is batting .408 with five home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Reds, meanwhile, have just wrapped up a road series win, highlighted by a seven-run 10th inning in a 10-4 victory over the Miami Marlins. They took three of four games in the series, outscoring Miami 32-15. TJ Friedl played a key role, driving in 10 runs over the series and hitting a grand slam. He was hit by a pitch in the 10th inning on Thursday but remained in the game.

The series will see the Brewers’ Aaron Civale (2-8, 5.14 ERA) start the opener, despite a tough stint since joining Milwaukee. Civale’s previous performance included a loss to the Washington Nationals, and he’s 1-5 in starts since joining from the Tampa Bay Rays. He has faced the Reds only once before.

The Reds will counter with Carson Spiers (4-3, 3.59 ERA), who took a loss in his last outing against the San Francisco Giants. Spiers has only pitched against Milwaukee once, in a relief role, giving up four runs in a previous encounter.

Both teams will be fresh from overnight travel, with the Reds coming from South Florida and the Brewers returning from Atlanta.
