Indiana Fever Outlook: Life Without Clark Begins
The Indiana Fever are trying to adjust quickly to a Caitlin Clark-less lineup and it hasn’t been pretty. With their star rookie sidelined by a quad strain for at least two weeks, the Fever (2-3) stumbled in their first full game without her, dropping a winnable 83-77 contest to the Washington Mystics. The offense looked out of sync, the ball movement stalled, and the spark that Clark brings was sorely missed.
Sophie Cunningham called the loss a “gut punch,” while Kelsey Mitchell emphasized the wake-up call. “We weren’t sharp enough to compete,” she said blunt but true. Despite the setback, veteran DeWanna Bonner, ironically a former Sun standout, showed out with 21 points and remains a crucial stabilizer while Clark heals. Sydney Colson filled in at point but managed only four points in 31 minutes, not nearly enough to fill those oversized shoes.
With Clark out and Indiana still searching for rhythm, bettors should think twice before jumping on the hefty double-digit spread.
Connecticut Sun Outlook: Searching for Rock Bottom
It’s been a nightmare start for the Connecticut Sun. At 0-5, they’re off to their worst season opening since 2020, and coming off a blowout loss to Dallas, a team that hadn’t won a game before that one. That’s a rough look.
Coach Rachid Meziane didn’t sugarcoat things postgame, citing poor effort and lack of heart. Former MVP Tina Charles did everything she could, dropping 27 points, and Marina Mabrey chipped in 19 — but now Mabrey is questionable with a quad issue. If she can’t go, Charles will have to shoulder even more of the burden against an Indiana team still trying to find its identity.
The Sun have not covered a game all season and are giving up a ton of points, allowing over 100 in back-to-back games. That said, they could be catching the Fever at just the right time.

Indiana has more talent on paper, even without Clark, and Bonner should shine against her former squad. But with the offense still adjusting and Connecticut desperate to avoid 0-6, expect this one to be closer than the number suggests. Fever win, but not by much.
