Game Preview
Here’s a unique, betting-focused preview with team breakdowns, predictions, and player prop insights for the Auburn vs. Creighton second-round NCAA Tournament matchup:
Auburn Tigers (-8.5, Total: 151.0)
Auburn survived a sluggish start against Alabama State but turned on the jets late in the first half and never looked back. Despite being a 1-seed, the Tigers didn’t flex their full muscle until the second half, which raises some red flags heading into a much tougher matchup. Still, they’re riding a dominant 29-5 record and are 6-2 ATS in their last eight.
Johni Broome remains the engine, logging his 19th career double-double in the win — and he’ll be crucial again here. Look for Broome’s rebounding prop and total points to be strong plays, especially given the size matchup against Kalkbrenner. Auburn’s offense thrives when they can attack downhill, but against a strong rim protector like Kalkbrenner, expect Bruce Pearl’s crew to adjust and lean on mid-range and outside shooting.
The Tigers’ depth and size give them a strong edge, but they’ll need better execution out of the gate. A fast start is key if they want to cover the number.
Creighton Bluejays
Creighton made easy work of Louisville in the first round, using a 19-2 run to bury the Cardinals and cruise into the Round of 32. The Bluejays have now covered in four of their last six and are 5-1 ATS in their last six tournament games.
The key for Creighton is their balance and spacing. Jamiya Neal was electric with 11-of-16 shooting and 12 rebounds, while Steven Ashworth poured in 22 points and dished five assists. But it’s the anchor in the paint, Ryan Kalkbrenner, who could swing this game. The four-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year will be tasked with neutralizing Broome — and potentially hitting his rebounds and blocks props in the process.
Creighton’s ability to control tempo, shoot the three, and force tough shots makes them live to pull off the upset. If Ashworth can continue to stretch the floor and Kalkbrenner protects the rim effectively, they’ll be in this to the wire.
Betting Prediction:
This is a classic clash of styles — Auburn’s physicality vs. Creighton’s finesse and floor spacing. While Auburn has the firepower to pull away, Creighton’s defense and three-point shooting keep them close. Auburn may win, but Creighton is strong value getting +8.5.
Pick: Creighton +8.5
Lean: Under 151.0
Player Props to Watch:
Johni Broome Over 10.5 Rebounds
Ryan Kalkbrenner Under 20.5 Points
Steven Ashworth Over 16.5 Points
