Phoenix Mercury Outlook
After getting rocked 98-89 in Dallas, the Phoenix Mercury return home looking for revenge in this back-to-back clash. They were caught flat-footed by a red-hot Wings squad that poured in 32 points in the first quarter and never looked back.
Kahleah Copper exploded for a season-best 33 points in the loss, just her sixth game back from knee surgery, and Satou Sabally added 20 against her former team. But defense was the missing ingredient, as Phoenix allowed Dallas to shoot 61% in the first half. Coach Nate Tibbetts knows adjustments must be made quickly, especially on the perimeter where the Wings rookies went wild.
Expect the Mercury to bring more intensity on defense and tighten their transition coverage. They’re still 12-6 on the season and have shown the firepower to bounce back.

The Wings may be banged up with Arike Ogunbowale and DiJonai Carrington sidelined, but their young core stepped up in a big way. Rookie Aziaha James dropped 28 points and drained five threes, while JJ Quinerly added 17 and ran the offense with poise.
Paige Bueckers continued to shine with 23 points and five dimes. More importantly, Dallas brought energy from the tip, forcing Phoenix on their heels. They’ve now won five of their last seven and appear to be finding their rhythm.
Coach Chris Koclanes praised the team’s effort, calling Thursday’s win the closest they’ve come to a “full 40-minute” performance all year. Even on the road, this fearless group of rookies can cause problems, especially if they start fast again.
