Ever since Peyton Manning hung up his cleats, the Denver Broncos have had eleven starting quarterbacks in the six years since the Hall-of-Famer threw his last ball. The carousel of the insanity at the position has mercifully ended when Denver acquired nine-time Pro-Bowl quarterback and Super Bowl Champion Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks that saw Denver give up a slew of draft round picks and QB Drew Lock. Overnight, the Broncos became relevant again, answering the biggest request at the most important position with the acquisition of Wilson.
Denver’s anemic offense has marred the team for the past five seasons in which they haven’t boasted a single winning season. The pairing of Wilson and new Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett – the first offensive-minded leader since Gary Kubiak – changes everything. As offense coordinator for the Packers since 2019, Hackett, alongside Aaron Rodgers, led the Packers to becoming the league’s best scoring offense in 2020. Wide receivers Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and Jerry Jeudy, who were victims of the ineptitude of their signal-caller, should thrive with Wilson under center.
While Wilson will be tasked to rejuvenate the passing offense, the running game remains effervescent. The Broncos boast one of the best one-two punches in the league with second-year pro Javonte Williams and veteran Melvin Gordon III, who combined for 1,821 yards rushing, 529 passing and 17 touchdowns. Defensively, despite a slew of injuries last season, the unit as a whole was the strength of the entire team. They conceded the third-fewest points in the league with their run defense only allowing nine rushing touchdowns. If healthy the Broncos’ defense will be a force to be reckon with.
While they have to contend against the AFC West opponents, the Broncos have other tough challengers with San Francisco, Indianapolis, Tennessee, Baltimore, Arizona and the Rams. They do play Seattle, Houston, NY Jets, Jacksonville and Carolina, which will make their life easier.

The Bottom Line:
The Broncos already had a great defense, a superb running game and potent wide receivers along with a solid offensive line but all they were missing was a quarterback and they were able to nab one of the best at the position. With Wilson on board, the Broncos have suddenly become Super Bowl contenders. There will be growing pains with most of the coaching staff serving their duties for the first time but the addition of Wilson has changed everything from expectations to the atmosphere within the franchise
