Seattle Mariners: Cal Raleigh Owns the City… and Probably the Moon
Six months ago, Cal Raleigh signed a $105 million contract. Since then, he’s basically transformed into a baseball demigod with a bat. Sixty home runs? That’s not a typo. That’s not a glitch in the matrix. That’s “I’m-hitting-bombs-on-pitches-in-another-time-zone” kind of chaos.
He’s crushing fastballs below the knees, homering off pitches that are basically in the dugout. The Home Run Derby? He won it with his dad pitching and his little brother catching. Like it was a backyard BBQ. His slugging percentage at home is higher than most people’s GPA in college and probably yours too.
The Mariners have had one playoff appearance since 2001, so yeah, this city is kind of foaming at the mouth. And now with George Kirby (10-8, 4.21 ERA) taking the mound, they’ll be looking to avoid another 18-inning horror show. Kirby already threw seven shutout innings in the last home playoff game and then watched his team lose 1-0 in a game that basically needed a federal investigation to end.
Seattle has the crowd, the bats, the rest, the voodoo magic. All that’s left is a Game 1 win to avoid turning T-Mobile Park into a therapy circle.
Detroit Tigers: From Collapse Kings to Chaos Agents
Let’s rewind. The Tigers had a 15.5-game lead in the AL Central and still managed to blow it. Not great! But hey, they rallied just in time to knock out Cleveland and punch a ticket to Seattle, so let’s give them that.
Rookie starter Troy Melton (3-2, 2.76 ERA) gets the ball after giving up four runs in literally one-third of an inning last outing. AJ Hinch said he’s got “plus stuff.” Yeah, plus runs allowed, too. If Melton survives more than three innings, Vegas might suspend the game for investigation.
Tarik Skubal, Detroit’s ace and the 2024 Cy Young winner, is being saved for Game 2, which makes sense if you enjoy starting playoff series by flipping a coin in a hurricane.
The offense has its moments, but this isn’t exactly Murderers’ Row. Dillon Dingler hit a tie-breaking homer in Game 3 vs Cleveland, which is great for him, and probably confusing for anyone who thought he was a minor Marvel villain.
Final Score Prediction
The Mariners are rested, raging, and rolling behind a rabid crowd. Detroit brings heart, hustle, and a rookie starter who just gave up four runs in one out. Good night, Tigers.
Seattle covers the runline, the over 7.0 cashes, and the Cal Raleigh legend grows by the hour.
