The Green Bay Packers have been a force to be reckon in the past three seasons winning thirteen games each year, but the story in the playoffs has repeated itself with crushing defeats as favorites coming into the games. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers won his fourth MVP award last season but looked all out of sorts in his final game against the 49ers in a divisional matchup which his team lost on home soil. Nevertheless, apart from Minnesota, the Packers are the clear-cut favorite to garner their fourth straight NFC North title. And with Rodgers at the helm, the Packers always seem to find a way to go beyond the regular season but the signal-caller will be without his best receiver.
Rodgers will always lift up anybody he throws the ball to but losing Davante Adams was a big blow. The Packers’ strategy at the wide receiver position has been debated for years and their reluctance to opt for a supreme talent at the position has been maddening in Packer nation. This year’s draft was no exception when the team’s brass, who had two first-round picks, passed on receivers by selecting two defensive players. Losing Adams, one, if not the best receiver in the league, is a big deal and the Packers will need to fill the void. Plus, they lost Equanimeous St. Brown and Marques Valdes-Scantling to free agency.
That means that Allen Lazard, veteran Randall Cobb, newly acquired Sammy Watkins and second-round pick Christian Watson will be tasked to pick up the slack. Rodgers will surely find a way to feed his receiving corps as he always does but could also offer the ball to one of the best running duos in the NFL. Not only did Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon combined for 1,602 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns, but were the recipients of 86 catches for 704 yards and eight scores. While most believe Rodgers will be just fine with his offensive weapons, there is excitement about a defense that could be one of their best in years.
Not only do the Packers have to play the Lions and Bears twice this season, they get to go through the NFC East and Rodgers could feast on their weak defenses.
