The Houston Astros enter Sunday aiming to strengthen their grip on the AL West after Saturday’s 11-0 thrashing of the Rangers. Houston’s offense erupted for 15 hits in that contest, giving them breathing room as they try to keep the Mariners at bay in the division race.
Framber Valdez takes the ball for Houston in this pivotal finale. Despite some drama in his last outing against the Yankees, where a miscommunication with his catcher raised eyebrows, Valdez has been excellent against the Rangers historically. He’s 9-5 with a 2.73 ERA across 19 career meetings with Texas and fanned 18 hitters in two starts against them this year.
Houston’s bats will look to stay hot, and if Valdez settles in early, the Astros could carry Saturday’s momentum into another win.

While the veteran lefty has been better at home (3.20 ERA), he’s struggled to limit the long ball and hasn’t beaten Houston since 2017. Corbin has given up at least three runs in six of his past nine appearances, and he’ll need to find his best stuff to keep Texas in this one.
The Rangers’ offense must rebound quickly, as they’ve now dropped two straight and risk losing ground in both the division and wild-card hunt.
