Game Preview
The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers are both eager to revive their bats as they kick off a three-game series in Arlington on Monday.
This matchup begins a nine-game road stretch for the Astros, who recently endured a 1-0 defeat to Tampa Bay, managing only three hits. Over their last 15 games since the All-Star break, Houston has averaged just 3.3 runs per game and has struggled offensively, scoring only one run in their past 19 innings.
"We’re in a bit of a slump," Astros manager Joe Espada noted. "It’s not about pressing. We expect to break out of it soon."
Yordan Alvarez was the sole bright spot in Houston’s recent loss, with two of the team’s three hits. The lower half of the lineup went hitless in 16 at-bats, contributing to a challenging stretch at the plate.
