Game Preview
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are set for their fifth encounter in 2024 as the Indiana Fever head to Chicago to take on the Sky on Friday night.
Both teams are battling for playoff positions, with Indiana holding a 15-16 record in seventh place, and Chicago slightly behind at 11-19, just ahead of the Atlanta Dream for the final playoff spot.
This season, Clark has dominated the rivalry with Reese, holding a 3-1 edge, including a win during their college days in the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight. Professionally, Clark and the Fever have won two of their matchups, although the Sky took the latest game by a narrow margin.
Clark has been exceptional, leading the WNBA in assists with an average of 8.1 per game and breaking the rookie record for 3-pointers made, now standing at 88 after a recent game against Connecticut.
Reese has been a rebounding force, leading the league with 12.9 per game and recording at least 10 rebounds in 24 consecutive games, though the Sky has struggled with shooting efficiency.
The two stars also played together for Team WNBA in a victory over Team USA in the All-Star Game.
Chicago’s performance has dipped since the Olympic break, losing five of six games, including a recent defeat to Washington where they squandered a late lead.
"Growing pains are tough," noted Sky guard Diamond DeShields. "We’re a young team, so we have to keep learning and improving with each game."
The Sky’s top scorer, Chennedy Carter (17.2 points per game), missed the last game due to health protocols but is expected to return against the Fever, according to coach Theresa Weatherspoon.
Meanwhile, Indiana has enjoyed a strong post-Olympic run, going 4-1 and aiming for its first playoff appearance since 2016. While Clark draws much attention, her teammate Kelsey Mitchell leads the team in scoring with an average of 18.3 points per game and recently set a franchise record with her scoring consistency.
Clark praised Mitchell, stating, "She’s extremely consistent and one of the most underrated players. It’s been great building chemistry and relying on her performance."
