Indiana Fever Outlook
The Fever are quietly building some grit. Even without Caitlin Clark, sidelined for a third straight game with a groin injury, Indiana has rattled off two big wins, including a gutsy road victory over Minnesota to clinch the Commissioner’s Cup.
Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard are doing the dirty work, each posting double-doubles last time out. What stood out most? Indiana’s defense, they shut out the Lynx for over eight minutes to close the second quarter. That’s how you win without your best player.
Clark’s absence lowers the offensive ceiling, but it’s forcing the rest of the roster to adapt and evolve and they’ve done just that during this win streak. Now back home to start a five-game stretch, Indiana looks to test themselves again, this time as underdogs against the reigning champs.
Las Vegas Aces Outlook
The Aces may be 8-8, but this isn’t panic time yet. They come in rested after narrowly getting past Phoenix on Sunday, and they’ve used the week to regroup on their five-game road swing.
Injuries have thinned the frontcourt (Gustafson is still out, and Parker-Tyus is on maternity leave), prompting a move for NaLyssa Smith to bolster the depth. Still, this isn’t the same dominant Vegas squad we’ve seen in years past. A’ja Wilson is vocal about the need to battle through this rough patch and this road test will be another gut check.
Las Vegas is favored, but they’re far from automatic these days. With growing pains and thin depth, this matchup might not be as lopsided as the spread suggests.
