The Indiana Fever are set to start their six-game homestand with high hopes of continuing their winning momentum, aiming for a fifth consecutive victory as they face the Los Angeles Sparks in Indianapolis on Wednesday night.
Currently at 17-16 for the season, the Fever recently matched their June winning streak of four games with successive 100-point games, showcasing a strong offensive display.
In their latest triumph, a 100-93 win against the Dallas Wings, Kelsey Mitchell dazzled with a season-best 36 points while standout rookie Caitlin Clark added 28 points and 12 assists. Both Mitchell and Clark were instrumental from beyond the arc, sinking five 3-pointers each, contributing to the team’s impressive 50 percent shooting from three-point range.
This offensive surge followed a commanding 100-81 victory over the Chicago Sky.
Clark highlighted the synergy between her and Mitchell, noting, “When both guards are active and making plays, it forces the opposition into difficult decisions about defensive assignments. We’ve been shooting well, complementing each other, and also driving effectively which balances our play nicely.”
Earlier in the season, Mitchell led with 18 points in a tight 78-73 win over the Sparks in Los Angeles. However, the Sparks bounced back in the subsequent matchup, overcoming a 30-point onslaught from Clark to clinch an 88-82 win in Indianapolis.
For Los Angeles (7-25), Dearica Hamby, who played key roles in the previous meetings with 18 and 17 points, only managed five in a recent 80-62 loss to Atlanta at home.
Sparks rookie Rickea Jackson, having scored in double digits for ten consecutive games, remains focused on improvement, particularly on the defensive end, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times: “I’m striving to enhance my game continuously. While my scoring has been consistent, I’m more focused on elevating my defensive play to meet my personal standards.”
