Game Preview
After a thrilling comeback win on Saturday, the Miami Marlins have a chance to secure consecutive victories in Atlanta for the first time in over two years when they face the Braves on Sunday.
The Marlins last achieved back-to-back wins at Truist Park on April 23-24, 2022. On Saturday, they ended a six-game losing streak against their NL East rivals with a 4-3 win, powered by two RBIs each from Jake Burger and Jesus Sanchez.
Trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning, Burger drove in a run with a single, and Sanchez added an RBI double. Sanchez then gave Miami the lead with another run-scoring double in the seventh.
"This game in Atlanta had a lot of adrenaline; we focused on staying calm and executing well," Sanchez said. "We need to win tomorrow to tie the series and build momentum."
Sanchez recorded his first three-hit game since July 4 and his first multi-RBI game since July 12.
To secure the series split, the Marlins will need a strong performance from starter Edward Cabrera. After Kyle Tyler’s early exit on Saturday, Miami’s bullpen stepped up with 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits.
"The bullpen was exceptional," said manager Skip Schumaker. "They showed resilience after a tough loss the night before."
Cabrera (1-3, 6.65 ERA) has struggled this season, giving up 32 earned runs in 43 1/3 innings. He is 0-1 with a 4.85 ERA in three career starts against Atlanta.
The Braves will counter with All-Star left-hander Max Fried, making his first appearance since the All-Star Game on July 16. Fried, who has been recovering from left forearm neuritis, returns to a Braves team already dealing with multiple injuries.
