Game Preview
While the Philadelphia Phillies hold the best record in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers are vying to avoid an extra postseason round.
The Dodgers and Brewers are separated by just one game in the battle for the second- and third-best records in the NL. They kick off a three-game series at Dodger Stadium on Friday night.
Milwaukee has led the NL Central since April 30, currently holding a six-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. Los Angeles has dominated the NL West since April 1, maintaining a 6.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres.
Since dropping the first three games of a four-game series in San Diego on June 20-22, Milwaukee has gone 8-3. They split a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies, finishing with a 4-3 loss on Thursday due to going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
"There were plenty of opportunities tonight," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Thursday. "We had a few defensive miscues that cost us. It’s tough to maintain intensity every night, but we keep it close."
Milwaukee never led but tied the game with Jackson Chourio’s RBI double in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to 10 games with a .424 average (14-for-33) during that span.
Los Angeles is reeling from consecutive series losses to the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks. After winning the opener against Arizona, the Dodgers were outscored 21-7 in the final two games, concluding with a 9-3 loss on Thursday.
