Game Preview
Minnesota Twins catcher Christian Vazquez, batting .204, enters Monday night’s three-game series opener against the host Chicago White Sox with renewed confidence from recent success.
Vazquez hit a walk-off home run against Houston Astros closer Josh Hader on Sunday and has recorded three straight multi-hit games to start July.
"The game is so hard, and you can never stop working. I feel good, my swing feels very good," Vazquez said. "I struggled for the first two months, but now I feel like the old Vazquez everyone knows."
The Twins have been on a roll, winning their last five series.
While Vazquez’s recent contributions are noteworthy, teammate Jose Miranda has been consistently hot, with hits in 13 of his past 14 at-bats, including a pinch-hit single on Sunday.
Minnesota had an injury scare when shortstop Carlos Correa exited Sunday’s game in the first inning after being hit on the right hand. Diagnosed with a finger contusion, Correa assured reporters he plans to play against the White Sox, who hold the worst record in the majors at 26-66.
