Game Preview

The Minnesota Lynx aim to extend their winning streak when they face the Connecticut Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, this Tuesday.

Riding a wave of momentum with six consecutive victories and wins in 13 of their last 14 games, the Lynx (29-9) approach the season’s second-to-last game with high stakes. Despite their strong record, the Lynx have struggled against the Sun (27-11) this season, losing both previous matchups.

Minnesota’s recent victory over the WNBA-leading New York Liberty kept their slim chances alive for the top playoff seed. An 88-79 win underscored their ambitions, as coach Cheryl Reeve emphasized the significance of defeating the league leader.

Bridget Carleton was pivotal in that effort, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring 19 points. The Lynx now face a scenario where they could snatch the top playoff spot by winning their last two games, provided the Liberty lose theirs.

A win against Connecticut would at least secure second place for Minnesota. Napheesa Collier, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds in their last game, previously scored 31 points in an overtime loss to the Sun on May 23.

The Sun’s DeWanna Bonner, who scored 20 points in that game, struggled in Connecticut’s recent 84-71 loss to the Las Vegas Aces, which thwarted their hopes for a perfect road trip. Bonner shot just 30% from the field and missed all her 3-point attempts.

Connecticut coach Stephanie White stressed the importance of moving past the loss quickly, noting the challenges of balancing recovery with preparation for both the upcoming game and the playoffs.
