Game Preview

In their bid to stay competitive in the American League Central, the Minnesota Twins aim to secure a series win against the Texas Rangers on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.

The Twins have taken the first two games of the four-game series, winning 3-2 on Thursday and 4-3 on Friday. They trail the Cleveland Guardians by three games in the division race but hold the second AL wild-card spot, leading the Kansas City Royals by two games and the Boston Red Sox by 4.5 games.

On Friday, Carlos Santana and Ryan Jeffers led the Twins to victory with home runs accounting for all their runs. Jeffers hit a solo homer to tie the game in the third, and Santana added a decisive three-run blast in the fifth. Jeffers tops the team with 18 home runs, while Santana, in his 15th season, ranks second with 17.

"We kept battling and managed to get the win," Jeffers said. "Carlos’s leadership and power are crucial for us. At 38, he’s still swinging a great bat and playing a key role for us."

Rookie right-hander David Festa (2-2, 5.20 ERA) will start for the Twins on Saturday. This will be Festa’s sixth career start, following a short outing against Cleveland last Sunday. He will be facing the Rangers for the first time.

As the Twins push towards the postseason, the Rangers are struggling, having lost 15 of their last 20 games and on the brink of their seventh consecutive series defeat. The defending World Series champions are currently 11 games under .500, trailing the Houston Astros by 10 games in the AL West and sitting 11.5 games back in the wild-card race.

Friday’s game saw the Rangers briefly take the lead, but Andrew Heaney’s short outing contributed to the loss. Texas has dropped four of its last five games by just one run.

"Every loss is tough," said Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. "We’ve been in close games, but we haven’t been able to get the extra runs we need. We need to find a way to get back on track."

Nathan Eovaldi (8-6, 3.75 ERA) will start for Texas on Saturday. The 34-year-old right-hander had a rough outing last time, giving up three runs over three innings in a loss to the New York Yankees. Eovaldi has a career record of 4-3 with a 4.89 ERA in eight starts against the Twins.
