Game Preview

The Dodgers are set to lean on their bullpen in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Mets on Monday. Riding a 33-inning scoreless streak, which ties a postseason record from 1966, the bullpen has been a key asset for manager Dave Roberts, who referred to them as his MVP during the NLDS. Following a dominant 9-0 win in Game 1, Roberts plans to start reliever Ryan Brasier, with the bullpen expected to cover all innings.

Brasier, who pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings in Game 4 of the NLDS, has a 4.91 ERA this postseason. In their Game 1 win, only two relievers were needed to back up starter Jack Flaherty, who pitched seven strong innings. Right-handers Daniel Hudson and Ben Casparius handled the rest, giving the Dodgers’ bullpen plenty of rest for Game 2.

On offense, the Dodgers posted nine hits and seven walks, coasting to victory without a home run. Shohei Ohtani had two hits and scored twice, while Mookie Betts delivered a key three-run double. Despite a sore ankle, Freddie Freeman also contributed with two hits and an RBI.

The Mets will counter with left-hander Sean Manaea in Game 2. Manaea, who was 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA in the regular season, allowed just one run over seven innings in his last start against the Phillies. He’s also made adjustments to his mechanics, increasing his confidence heading into this matchup.

After a long season and a sluggish Game 1 performance, the Mets are hoping to bounce back. Jesse Winker acknowledged that the team simply faced a strong opponent and emphasized that they’re ready to move forward after their Game 1 loss. The Mets are now on a five-game losing streak against the Dodgers, dating back to the regular season.
