Game Preview

As the National League Championship Series continues to produce high-scoring games, the New York Mets hope to find a way to slow down the offensive onslaught and keep their season alive in Game 6 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

The Mets are turning to left-hander Sean Manaea, who helped secure a 7-3 win in Game 2 by allowing just two hits and two earned runs over five-plus innings. Manaea, who holds a 2-0 record with a 2.65 ERA this postseason, is one of the few pitchers to contain the Dodgers’ explosive offense.

The Dodgers lead the series 3-2 after New York’s 12-6 victory in Game 5, where Pete Alonso’s three-run homer ignited the Mets’ offense. They collected 14 hits and five walks, with key contributions from Starling Marte (four hits), Francisco Alvarez (three hits), and Francisco Lindor, Alonso, and Jesse Winker, who combined for nine RBIs.

The Dodgers, who have averaged 7.2 runs per game in the series, will rely on a bullpen game in Game 6. Manager Dave Roberts has not yet named a starter but remains confident in his fresh bullpen, despite mixed results in earlier games.

Los Angeles has concerns with slumping hitters Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez, and Freddie Freeman, who is playing through an ankle injury. Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani have carried the offense, but Roberts may face a tough decision on Freeman’s availability for Game 6.

"We’re still scoring, but we need a few more guys to get going," Freeman said, looking ahead to the pivotal game.
