Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview
The Blue Jays open up a massive four-game home series Monday night against the division-leading Yankees, sitting just three games back in the AL East. On the mound, they’re turning to Max Scherzer, an eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner, who’s still shaking off the rust from injury.
Scherzer (0-0, 5.63 ERA) is making just his third start of the year and looked serviceable in his latest outing, tossing five innings and allowing three runs on six hits against Cleveland. Toronto’s recent form is middle-of-the-road, going 7-8 over their last 15 games. But after taking a series on the road in Boston, momentum is building, especially with a pitcher like Scherzer leading the charge.
New York Yankees Betting Preview
The Yankees, despite slumping over the past two weeks (6-10 since June 13), are clinging to the top spot in the AL East. They snapped out of their offensive funk Sunday with a 12-5 beatdown of the A’s and that’s a red flag for Toronto.
Carlos Rodon (9-5, 2.92 ERA) gets the nod for New York. He’s been a reliable force and is coming off six shutout innings in Cincinnati. His history against the Jays is rocky (2-2, 5.02 ERA), but this is a different version of Rodon in 2024.
Aaron Judge launched two bombs on Sunday, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. added four RBIs. Judge has gone deep once off Scherzer before, while Stanton has taken him deep four times, something to keep in mind if either gets a pitch to handle.
The Yankees believe they’re turning the corner offensively and this four-game set is a chance to solidify their grip on the division.
Prediction
Rodon keeps the Jays quiet while New York’s power bats cash in just enough on Scherzer. Expect a playoff-like atmosphere as both teams jockey for early AL East leverage.
