Game Preview

Though their six-game winning streak at home ended on Sunday, the Houston Astros are encouraged by outfielder Chas McCormick’s resurgence. After being sent down to Triple-A, McCormick has made a notable comeback, hitting .409 across six games, highlighted by a three-hit performance last Sunday.

As the Astros (77-66) prepare to host the Oakland Athletics (62-82) for a three-game set starting Tuesday, they look to McCormick to continue bolstering an outfield that struggled during Kyle Tucker’s 79-game absence due to injury.

Manager Joe Espada praised McCormick’s recent form, saying, "He’s gaining confidence and understanding his capabilities, which is crucial. I’ll keep giving him chances because it’s clear he can produce great results when he sticks to his approach."

On the mound for Houston on Tuesday will be Spencer Arrighetti (7-12, 4.82 ERA), who despite a rocky latest outing, was August’s AL Rookie of the Month. Arrighetti aims to rebound from allowing nine runs in a brief stint last Wednesday against Cincinnati.

Facing him will be Oakland’s Osvaldo Bido (5-3, 3.41), who has maintained a 2.08 ERA and held hitters to a .144 average in his last six appearances. The Athletics have come out on top in each of Bido’s last five starts.

Moreover, A’s rookie Lawrence Butler continues his impressive run, extending his hitting streak to 18 games with a single in Sunday’s game against Detroit, batting .392 during the streak.

Both teams look to these key players to make an impact as they kick off their series in Houston.
