Game Preview
The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to bring their newest weapon, Isaiah Hartenstein, into play as they seek to avenge their earlier loss to the Golden State Warriors. This high-stakes Western Conference showdown tips off Wednesday night in San Francisco.
In their first meeting 17 days ago, Stephen Curry dominated with seven 3-pointers en route to a 36-point performance, leading the Warriors to a 127-116 win over the Thunder. This time, however, the dynamics could shift significantly.
Key Changes Since Last Matchup
Golden State will likely be without De’Anthony Melton, who made an immediate impact in his first start as a Warrior with 19 points and 10 rebounds but suffered a season-ending knee injury shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, the Thunder will debut a bolstered frontcourt presence with Hartenstein, who has already proven his worth with two double-doubles in three games since recovering from a broken hand.
Hartenstein is averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds during Oklahoma City’s two-game win streak and provides much-needed interior strength, especially in the absence of Chet Holmgren, who remains sidelined due to injury.
Thunder’s New Edge
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been electric during this streak, emphasized how crucial Hartenstein is to the team’s success.
“Isaiah fills a key gap for us that we’ve been missing,” said Gilgeous-Alexander. “With his presence inside, we have a better balance to go up against teams like Golden State.”
In their earlier meeting, Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams combined for just 44 points. During the current streak, the pair has exploded for 123 points across two games, giving the Thunder a more dynamic offense heading into the rematch.
Warriors Slipping
The Warriors are coming off back-to-back losses, their first losing streak of the season. Golden State squandered double-digit leads in both games, falling to the San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets.
Despite securing an NBA Cup quarterfinal berth with a win over the Pelicans last week, coach Steve Kerr admitted the team is running on fumes.
“You can feel the energy drop,” Kerr said. “We need to find our rhythm and focus again, especially against a talented team like Oklahoma City.”
Betting Insights
Golden State’s fatigue, combined with Oklahoma City’s newfound balance with Hartenstein, makes the Thunder an intriguing pick as underdogs. The Warriors are 0-2 ATS in their last two games and have struggled to maintain leads.
Meanwhile, the Thunder have covered the spread in four of their last five matchups against teams with winning records. Hartenstein’s rebounding prowess and Gilgeous-Alexander’s offensive consistency add value to Oklahoma City in this spot.
Injury Updates
The Thunder will be without Alex Caruso due to a hip injury, while the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga is questionable with an illness.
Best Bet: Thunder + Spread. Back Oklahoma City to cover, with Hartenstein’s impact on both ends giving them the edge to keep this game close.
