Game Preview

Rookie right-hander Tyler Phillips will look to turn things around for the Philadelphia Phillies as he takes the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

Phillips had a tough outing in his last start, allowing eight runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners. This performance followed a dominant four-hit shutout against the Cleveland Guardians, which suggests he might have been running on fumes after throwing 105 pitches in that game.

Phillips, who has expressed regret over not meeting expectations, faces the Dodgers for the first time. The Phillies secured a 6-2 victory on Tuesday, with strong pitching from Cristopher Sanchez and a standout performance from Edmundo Sosa, who hit a home run and drove in three runs.

The Phillies ended a six-game losing streak with this win, and it was only their second victory in nine games.

On the other side, the Dodgers will start rookie right-hander Gavin Stone, who has hit a rough patch after a strong start to the season. Stone, who had a 2.73 ERA through June, has given up nine runs over his last two starts. In his previous game against the Phillies on July 10, he allowed four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted that while Stone still shows good velocity, he may be experiencing some fatigue. Stone himself acknowledged struggles with execution despite feeling good with his pitches.

The Dodgers’ offense was less effective on Tuesday, with Teoscar Hernandez hitting his 25th home run. The team also faced a setback as hard-throwing reliever Brusdar Graterol, who was making his season debut, left the game after just eight pitches due to what seems to be a season-ending hamstring injury.

Roberts expressed disappointment, highlighting the challenge of losing Graterol, who had been a key contributor for the team.
