Game Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers are poised to clinch the National League Central title as they prepare to host the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series starting Monday night at home.

The series opener will feature Milwaukee’s right-hander Aaron Civale (6-8, 4.57 ERA) going head-to-head with Philadelphia’s lefty Ranger Suarez (12-6, 3.05 ERA).

Despite a narrow 11-10 defeat in extra innings to Arizona on Sunday, Milwaukee’s magic number to secure the division stands at three. In the loss, Brewers rookie Jackson Chourio hit his 21st home run and drove in five runs, while Willy Adames added two RBIs, nearing a franchise shortstop record.

With a division lead of 10 games over the Cubs, Milwaukee (86-63) returns from successful road trips to San Francisco and Arizona for a seven-game stint at home.

Reflecting on the season, Willy Adames expressed in a postgame interview with Bally Sports Wisconsin, “It’s been a remarkable year. We’ve faced challenges but have managed to stay resilient and enjoy the journey.”

Meanwhile, the Phillies edged out the Mets 2-1 on Sunday thanks to J.T. Realmuto’s clutch ninth-inning hit. Pitcher Cristopher Sanchez contributed with a solid performance, giving up just one run over more than seven innings.

Philadelphia’s manager Rob Thomson highlighted the team’s resilience, stating, “Our team is filled with seasoned players who understand the marathon nature of the season and are ready to turn the page every day.”

Currently, Philadelphia (90-59) holds a two-game lead over the Dodgers for the National League’s top record, with Milwaukee two games behind Los Angeles in third place. The top two NL teams will receive byes in the first playoff round.

Aaron Civale, who joined the Brewers in July from Tampa Bay, is set to make his 12th start, having improved his performance considerably with Milwaukee. He’s posted a 2.67 ERA over his last six starts.

On the other hand, Ranger Suarez, after a stint on the injured list, has shown mixed results but remains a crucial part of the Phillies’ rotation. He has a 2.87 ERA in three career starts against Milwaukee.

This matchup marks an important moment for both teams as they look to solidify their standings and playoff positioning with the postseason approaching.
