Game Preview

Week two of the NFL preseason kicks off on Thursday night with the Philadelphia Eagles facing the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Eagles (11-6), who have been a potent offensive force since Jalen Hurts took over as quarterback and the signing of RB Saquon Barkley, are coming off a 16-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Jake Elliott secured the win with a 49-yard field goal as time expired.

In that game, rookie RB Will Shipley caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Kenny Pickett, giving Philadelphia a 6-3 lead in the first quarter. Rookie RB Kendall Milton led the Eagles with 39 rushing yards as they outgained the Ravens 259-164.

This season marks the first time since 2000 that the New England Patriots will not be led by head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots (4-13), who struggled offensively last season, selected QB Drake Maye with the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In Jerod Mayo’s debut as head coach, New England recorded five sacks and limited Carolina to 151 total yards in a 17-3 home win.

The Patriots went into halftime with a 7-0 lead, thanks to a two-yard touchdown run by Kevin Harris. Rookie QB Joe Milton later connected with JaQuae Jackson for a 38-yard touchdown pass. Kayshon Boutte led New England with 53 receiving yards.
