Game Preview

The Atlanta Dream have returned from the extended Paris Olympics break as a revitalized team.

With a record of 9-17, the Dream have won their first two games back, defeating top WNBA teams Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun. They will aim for their first three-game winning streak of the season on Wednesday night when they host the Phoenix Mercury for two games in three nights in College Park, Georgia.

"Just their ability to come together during those moments and stay composed, and believe that they’re fine," said coach Tanisha Wright. "Then go out there and continue to execute."

Before the break, the Dream were on an eight-game losing streak.

The Mercury, standing at 15-13, are 2-1 since the break, having split two road games before defeating the Chicago Sky 86-68 on Sunday.

Diana Taurasi led the team with 23 points against Chicago, which marked the third time in the last 10 games that Kahleah Copper was not the top scorer for Phoenix.

The addition of power forward Monique Billings, formerly with the Dallas Wings, could bolster the Mercury. She contributed 13 points and eight rebounds in her debut with the team.

On Sunday, the Mercury announced that she had signed a seven-day contract.

"She’s a warrior," said Phoenix coach Nate Tibbetts. "Her energy, athleticism, and rebounding ability will really help us."

For Atlanta, the return of guard Jordin Canada has made a significant difference in the last two games. After appearing in only four games prior to the break, she scored a combined 29 points in the past two outings.

"Her ability to find her teammates, keep us calm, and confident is invaluable," Wright noted. "She’s a great leader out there, and the team executed plays well under her guidance."

Rhyne Howard (30 points against Seattle) and Tina Charles (22 points and 15 rebounds against Connecticut) have also delivered impressive performances in recent games.

In their only prior matchup this season, the Mercury narrowly defeated the Dream 88-85 in mid-May, with Copper scoring 38 points, including 13 free throws.
