Padres vs. Diamondbacks – Game Betting Preview & Prediction
Moneyline: Arizona -168 | Total: 9.0
Arizona Diamondbacks Preview
The Diamondbacks are in the middle of a four-game win streak and are hoping Zac Gallen can steady their shaky rotation on Saturday. The injury bug continues to bite Arizona’s pitching staff, after already losing Corbin Burnes for the season, they announced closer Justin Martinez is now done for the year as well.
Manager Torey Lovullo is preaching a “next-man-up” mentality as the team scrambles to stay competitive in the NL West. Thankfully, the offense has picked up the slack, and they managed a solid 5-1 win over the Padres in Friday’s series opener.
Zac Gallen (4-8, 5.15 ERA) needs to return to his All-Star form. He’s been up and down lately with only one quality start in his last six appearances. In his most recent outing, he allowed three long balls to Cincinnati, including a crushing two-run blast in the 7th inning. Gallen has already surrendered 14 homers this year and leads the NL in walks, not exactly ideal for your ace. Still, his track record vs. the Padres is solid: 4-3 with a 3.16 ERA in 12 career starts.
San Diego Padres Preview
The Padres’ rotation is being held together with tape and prayers. With Michael King and Yu Darvish both sidelined, San Diego is depending on rookie Ryan Bergert (1-0, 1.26 ERA), who’s looked impressive in limited action. In his last outing, Bergert tossed 5.1 scoreless innings against Milwaukee, giving up just one hit while navigating around four walks.
Manager Mike Shildt is asking a lot from a rotation that’s barely making it out of the fifth inning lately. The team’s recent pitching woes have forced the bullpen into heavy duty, which doesn’t bode well in a long series.
The Padres still have the bats to make noise. Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth, and Manny Machado all have decent histories against Gallen, including multiple home runs. San Diego is dangerous if they can get to Gallen early and hand a lead to the bullpen.
Prediction
Arizona is rolling, while San Diego’s rotation is running on fumes. With Gallen looking to bounce back and Arizona motivated to climb the standings, back the Diamondbacks to take control again.
