Game Preview

The Seattle Storm and New York Liberty, both secured in their WNBA playoff berths, are set to compete Thursday night in Brooklyn, aiming to gather momentum for the upcoming postseason. With seven games left in the regular season, each team is focused on fine-tuning their performance.

Seattle, currently fifth in the standings (20-13), concludes a three-game tour of the East Coast, having just split their series with the Connecticut Sun. They rebounded from a 93-86 loss with a strong 71-64 win, maintaining their perfect record when holding teams below 70 points this season.

Jordan Horston was instrumental in the latest victory, contributing three blocks and two steals, marking a standout performance since being moved to a bench role by coach Noelle Quinn in favor of recent addition Gabby Williams.

“Gabby starting helps distribute the ball more effectively to players like Jewell (Loyd) and Skylar (Diggins-Smith),” said Quinn. “And Jordan’s defensive prowess significantly bolsters our second unit, which we’ll continue to leverage.”

Top-ranked New York (27-6) enters the game well-rested, having not played since their 98-85 victory over Seattle on their recent West Coast trip, which ended Friday. That matchup saw the Liberty excel from three-point range and dominate the boards, out-rebounding the Storm 45-17.

Jonquel Jones, who overcame an illness to contribute significantly last Friday, is expected to play a vital role again. The five-time All-Star and key player in the Liberty’s lineup has increased her rebounding average to 10.4 post-Olympics, up from her season average.

Sabrina Ionescu praised Jones’s impact, noting, “Her ability to secure rebounds, set screens, and assert herself in the post is crucial for us, as we saw in the last game against the Sparks.”
