Game Preview

The Baltimore Orioles are set to build on their established winning record as they continue their campaign against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, aiming to extend their lead in the second game of a three-game set.

Having already secured a winning season, the Orioles (82-60) are pushing for more significant achievements in the American League East. Friday’s 2-0 victory over the Rays saw an impressive performance from right-hander Dean Kremer, who rebounded from an injury scare to nearly pitch a no-hitter into the seventh inning.

Kremer’s resilience and commitment were highlighted by manager Brandon Hyde, praising the pitcher’s growth and readiness to compete despite recent injuries. Kremer’s efforts, combined with three relievers, limited the Rays to just three hits in a tightly contested game where the Orioles managed only four hits themselves.

Among the minimal offense, shortstop Gunnar Henderson stood out with his 36th homer of the season and continues to excel since returning to the leadoff spot, where he feels increasingly comfortable.

Conversely, the Rays (69-72) are struggling to stay in the playoff hunt, having lost four of their last six games. They were without key infielder Brandon Lowe due to a finger injury, and his status remains uncertain for the remainder of the series.

The Orioles look to keep their momentum with right-hander Zach Eflin (10-7, 3.60 ERA) on the mound. Acquired from the Rays in July, Eflin has been exceptional, going 5-0 with a 1.95 ERA in his starts since joining Baltimore, including a standout performance against his former team in August.

Facing Eflin will be Rays’ right-hander Ryan Pepiot (7-6, 3.76 ERA), who has shown promise since returning from injury, although he struggled in his only start against the Orioles earlier this season.

As the series continues, both teams are eager to assert themselves, with the Orioles looking to solidify their playoff positioning and the Rays striving to rekindle their postseason aspirations.
