New York Yankees Betting Preview
The Yankees are eager to snap out of their funk after dropping four of their last five games, including a 4-2 defeat to the Rays on Monday. Offensively, New York was quiet with just six hits and 10 strikeouts, relying on two bases-loaded walks for their only runs.
All eyes are on Max Fried, who is looking to bounce back from a rough patch. Fried (11-4, 2.62 ERA) has struggled since returning from a blister issue, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits in his most recent outing, an 8-4 loss to Toronto. This was his second consecutive loss, marking his first losing streak since late last season with Atlanta.
Despite this skid, Fried has been dominant historically against Tampa Bay, posting a perfect 4-0 record with an absurd 0.32 ERA in four career starts. He blanked the Rays across 14 2/3 innings earlier this year, striking out four and not issuing a single walk.
If Fried can return to early-season form, the Yankees have a great chance to take control of this series.
Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview
The Rays stopped their recent slide with a 4-2 win on Monday, breaking a four-game losing streak. Even though they stranded 11 runners and went just 2-for-12 with men in scoring position, Junior Caminero’s two-run homer provided the offensive spark they needed. Caminero, who had been 1-for-12 in Cincinnati, looks to stay hot at Yankee Stadium.
Josh Lowe’s go-ahead single in the fifth inning proved clutch, and manager Kevin Cash praised his team’s timely hitting. “Right now every hit with guys on base, it matters,” Cash said.
Tampa Bay will turn to Joe Boyle (1-0, 1.42 ERA), who’s making just his second start of the season. In his previous outing, Boyle delivered five hitless innings against Atlanta, allowing only two unearned runs. His lone career start against New York came last season with Oakland, where he gave up two runs on three hits over three innings in a 7-3 loss.
Prediction
Fried’s dominance against Tampa Bay and the Yankees’ desperation to get back on track make New York the strong favorite. The Rays’ inconsistency with runners on base is still an issue, and facing a top-tier lefty like Fried could cool their bats.
