Baltimore Orioles Preview

The Orioles finally found a bit of rhythm after beating the Rockies in back-to-back games, including Sunday’s 5-1 win. But the level of competition drastically rises as they welcome Toronto for a four-game series that includes a Tuesday doubleheader. Baltimore hasn’t won more than two games in a row since mid-July, and their 4-6 record since the All-Star break highlights their inconsistency.

Zach Eflin (6-5, 5.78 ERA) will take the ball in the opener. The right-hander started strong this season, defeating Toronto on March 27 with six solid innings of two-run ball. However, his form has slipped, and he allowed two runs on five hits over five innings in a 3-2 loss to Cleveland in his latest outing.

Adley Rutschman is expected to return to the lineup following a brief rehab stint, while Tyler O’Neill has been the hottest bat in Baltimore’s order, homering in three straight games. Baltimore will need O’Neill and Gunnar Henderson to step up to offset Toronto’s dangerous lineup.

Toronto Blue Jays Preview

Toronto enters this series as one of baseball’s hottest teams, having won eight of their last ten games, though their four-game winning streak was snapped Sunday in a 10-4 loss at Detroit. Despite their dominance overall, the Blue Jays are a modest 26-26 on the road, a number they’ll want to improve in this AL East matchup.

Chris Bassitt (11-4, 3.88 ERA) will start Monday, looking to stay perfect in July. The right-hander is 4-0 this month with a 2.39 ERA, and he’s already defeated Baltimore once this season, striking out seven over six innings on March 30. Historically, Bassitt is 5-3 with a 4.61 ERA in nine career starts against the Orioles.

Toronto will be without catcher Alejandro Kirk, who’s on the injured list with a concussion, leaving Tyler Heineman and Ali Sanchez to handle catching duties. Even with this setback, the Jays’ depth and recent offensive surge give them an edge.

Prediction

With Bassitt’s current form and Toronto’s hot bats, the Blue Jays look primed to strike early in this series. Baltimore’s recent struggles against stronger teams could continue unless Eflin delivers a standout performance.

Score Prediction: Blue Jays 6, Orioles 4
Pick:  Toronto (-127)
