Detroit Tigers Preview
The Tigers are in the middle of another rough stretch, dropping five straight games, and their division lead is shrinking fast. Luckily, they have their ace Tarik Skubal lined up to stop the bleeding in Game 3 of this four-game set. Skubal (10-3, 2.19 ERA) has been Detroit’s rock all season and is coming off a dominant 11-strikeout performance against Texas, where he allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings.
Skubal, who won the AL Cy Young Award last year, has had limited success against Toronto in his career (0-1, 4.50 ERA in two starts), but his current form suggests he’s more than capable of handling the challenge. Despite the team’s slump, Detroit still holds a 7.5-game lead in the AL Central. Manager A.J. Hinch remains calm, reminding everyone that losing streaks are inevitable over a 162-game grind.
Spencer Torkelson has been one of the few offensive bright spots for Detroit, homering in each game of the series so far. If the Tigers are going to snap their skid, they’ll need Torkelson to keep providing power alongside timely hitting.
Toronto Blue Jays Preview
The Blue Jays, on the other hand, are rolling. They’ve won three straight and are 7-1 since the All-Star break, fueled by an offense that’s scored 51 runs during that stretch. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been red-hot, posting five multi-hit games in his last six outings with four doubles and a homer. He already has five hits, four runs, and three RBIs through the first two games of this series.
Kevin Gausman (7-7, 4.01 ERA) will start for Toronto, and he’s coming off one of his sharpest outings of the year. He limited the Yankees to one run over seven innings on just 86 pitches. Gausman has been solid against Detroit throughout his career (4-3, 3.40 ERA), including a 2.70 ERA in five starts at Comerica Park.
With the Blue Jays sitting 5.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East, they’re looking to maintain their momentum with another series win on the road.

This matchup sets up as a duel between two quality starters, but Detroit’s reliance on Skubal to end their skid adds pressure. Toronto’s offense, led by Guerrero, is clicking on all cylinders and might give Gausman enough support to steal another win.
