Round Three: Garden Chaos

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Madison Square Garden where two Big East heavyweights are about to settle their differences like two gamblers arguing over the last blackjack seat.

No. 6 UConn (29-4) meets No. 13 St. John’s (27-6) in the conference title game, and yes, this is the rubber match. Both teams already split the season series, which means naturally everyone is convinced they know what will happen next.

Spoiler alert. Nobody does.

St. John’s won the first meeting 81-72 by forcing 15 turnovers and letting Zuby Ejiofor do his best Shaq impression with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

UConn responded two weeks later by absolutely flattening the Red Storm 72-40. And when we say flattened, we mean St. John’s missed their last 24 shots and didn’t score for 17½ minutes.

That’s not a cold streak. That’s a full basketball ice age.

So yes, this game should be fun.

St. John’s Red Storm: Pitino’s Pressure Cooker

Rick Pitino has the Red Storm rolling again with five straight wins, and the Garden crowd will be louder than a Vegas sportsbook during March Madness.

Leading the charge is Zuby Ejiofor, the Big East Player of the Year, who has already piled up 41 points in the tournament. He dropped another 20 in the semifinal win over Seton Hall while casually grabbing rebounds like they were free casino drink tickets.

St. John’s has also received strong contributions from the supporting cast. Joson Sanon chipped in 15 off the bench, while Dillon Mitchell and Bryce Hopkins added 13 points each and dominated the glass.

Pitino has made it very clear this team is treating the championship game like their lives depend on it.

Which is great motivation.

Also slightly terrifying.

UConn Huskies: Championship DNA Mode

UConn, meanwhile, enters the title game playing its usual brand of basketball which can best be described as “efficiently ruining your evening.”

The Huskies bounced back from a late regular season loss by hammering Xavier and Georgetown in back-to-back tournament games. At one point it felt less like basketball and more like a public service announcement about defense.

Freshman Braylon Mullins stepped up in the semifinal with 21 points, including 15 in the first half. Meanwhile, UConn’s offense continues to run through Solo Ball and Tarris Reed Jr., even if they had quieter nights in the latest win.

The Huskies have been here before too. UConn is 8-3 in previous Big East championship games and tied for the most conference titles in league history.

Which means the pressure doesn’t bother them.

Unlike most gamblers during overtime.

LVSB Betting Prediction

The line sits at UConn -3.5 with the total at 140.5, which feels about right for a game featuring two top fifteen teams and approximately zero margin for error.

Expect defense, chaos, and at least one scoring drought that makes everyone uncomfortable.

St. John’s crowd advantage keeps things close, but UConn’s balance and tournament experience give them the late edge.

Final Score: UConn 71, St. John’s 66
Lean: UConn -3.5
Total:
Under 140.5
