Game Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers are aiming for a comeback with the help of newly joined veteran Dallas Keuchel as they play against the Washington Nationals this Saturday.

Keuchel (0-0, 4.61 ERA), who is in his fourth outing for Milwaukee after being traded from Seattle in late June, will compete against left-hander Mitchell Parker (5-5, 3.44).

The Nationals ended a five-game losing streak, matching their season’s longest, with a 5-2 victory in the first game of the series on Friday night. They scored four runs off Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta, who gave up 10 hits over five innings.

Jesse Winker, playing against his old team, hit a home run and a double to bring in a run for Washington on Friday. The 30-year-old outfielder, who had a batting average of .199 with one homer and 23 RBIs across 61 games for Milwaukee in an injury-impacted 2023 season, has been hitting .324 with seven doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs in 12 games this July.

The Brewers have lost six of their last eight games and have suffered back-to-back home losses for the first time since May 12-13.

Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy expressed concerns about the team’s focus: "I think we’re at a point in the last few weeks where, despite our discussions, the players seem to be looking forward to the break. To be frank, there seems to be a bit of disconnection."

Despite not having a win or loss in Milwaukee’s 9-2 away victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Sunday, Keuchel, who won the American League Cy Young Award in 2015, managed to keep the Dodgers scoreless for 4 1/3 innings using 94 pitches despite allowing three hits and five walks.
