Sporting a 10-5 record with a 5.32 ERA, Bello is among just five American League pitchers who racked up double-digit wins before the mid-season break. He enters this game on a high note, having won his last three starts in July, including a solid outing against the Kansas City Royals last Sunday where he allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings. In a prior game against the Oakland Athletics, he notched a season-high 11 strikeouts.
Although Bello’s strikeouts per nine innings have improved to 8.5 this season, his ERA, WHIP (1.472), and hits allowed per nine innings (9.9) have not reached last year’s levels.
This matchup marks Bello’s first career start against the Dodgers, who struggled offensively just before the break.
