Game Preview

Despite a shaky offensive performance towards the end of the first half of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have recently demonstrated a knack for clutch hitting.

Following two dramatic victories, the Dodgers are poised to complete a three-game sweep against the visiting Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.

The series began with a 4-1 Dodgers victory on Friday, powered by Freddie Freeman’s crucial grand slam in the eighth inning, which came after managing only two hits in the first seven innings.

The excitement continued into Saturday when Enrique Hernandez delivered a game-tying homer in the ninth and followed up with a tying single in the tenth. The Dodgers clinched a 7-6 victory on Will Smith’s walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning.

Reflecting on the consecutive hard-fought wins, Hernandez expressed, "We played two really tough games, and I think these tougher games say a lot about a team. Hopefully, these are the types of games that we need to launch us as a team and not look back."

After relying on rookies Gavin Stone and Justin Wrobleski for the first two games, the Dodgers will hand the ball to veteran left-hander James Paxton (7-2, 4.38 ERA) for Sunday’s finale. Paxton, a former Red Sox who made 19 starts for them last season, holds a 6-1 record with a 3.41 ERA in 10 career starts against Boston.

Despite a challenging season marked by injuries within the Dodgers’ rotation, the 35-year-old Paxton has been a critical asset. Although he’s had a 7.13 ERA in his recent four starts, the Dodgers have won three of these games.

Looking ahead, the Dodgers are expecting further reinforcement for their pitching staff, with Tyler Glasnow due to return from the injured list on Wednesday and Clayton Kershaw slated for his season debut on Thursday.
