The Boston Celtics were two wins away from an unlikely NBA Championship last season. But after tasting the sting of defeat, Boston hopes that experience will help them get to the very top in 2022-23.
It’s a team built to win with one of the best young cores in the NBA, led by All-Star Jayson Tatum, reigning NBA defensive player of the year Marcus Smart and All-Star Jaylon Brown. Robert Williams III emerged in the playoffs as a total force at center and Derrick White is a jack-of-all trades. They are all between 24 and 28 years-old, very much in their prime and veteran Al Horford remains to help lead the team into battle.
In the finals, their lack of secondary scoring was exposed, and the Celtics believe they’ve addressed that by adding Malcolm Brogdon. He scored 21.2 PPG and 19.1 PPG in roughly 34 minutes over the past couple of seasons and he is still just 29-years-old.
Add that to what turned into the best defense in the NBA under new coach Ime Udoka last year and this is a team that has one of the most well-rounded top-8 rotations in the league.
