Game Preview

St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Lance Lynn is returning from the injured list to start against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. This follows the Cardinals’ loss in the series opener.

Despite a knee injury, Lynn wasn’t ready to end his season and expressed his eagerness to contribute to the team’s efforts. His stint on the 15-day injured list ends as he feels ready to compete again. His rehabilitation outing at Triple-A Memphis saw him yield five runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings, but he was satisfied with his velocity and pitch count.

Lynn has had strong performances against the Reds this season, maintaining a 0.75 ERA across two starts. Historically, he holds a 13-5 record and a 3.05 ERA in 24 games against Cincinnati.

The Reds, who have won seven of their last nine games, aim to continue their momentum despite a challenging schedule and multiple injuries to their pitching staff. Manager David Bell praised his pitchers for their outstanding performances in recent games.

Cincinnati’s Brandon Williamson will counter Lynn. Williamson, returning from a shoulder injury, has made a recent relief appearance and a start, gradually increasing his innings.

The Reds welcomed back second baseman Jonathan India, who had recently dealt with an elbow issue, but managed to walk twice and score in the last game.

The Cardinals have also made some roster adjustments, promoting infielder Thomas Saggese from Triple-A and resting Masyn Winn due to an elbow concern.
