Detroit rolls into this matchup riding a four-game losing skid, fresh off being swept in Oakland where they were outscored 22-9. Their bats went ice cold (3-for-26 RISP), and sloppy defense (six errors) didn’t help.
Chris Paddack (5-11, 4.98 ERA) gets the nod for Detroit. He was lit up by Minnesota on Aug. 17 but bounced back with five strong innings against these same Royals last weekend. Still, inconsistency remains a red flag. If Detroit wants to avoid another slide, they’ll need their lineup to rediscover its punch.

Kansas City Royals Betting Outlook
While Detroit has the division lead, Kansas City is the team trending in the right direction. Winners of 11 of their last 16, the Royals are pushing hard for a wild-card berth. Bobby Witt Jr. is sizzling at the plate, riding a 16-game hit streak while batting .397 with nine RBIs in that span. Add in Vinnie Pasquantino’s clutch work against Detroit, and KC’s bats are looking lethal.
The Royals turn to Seth Lugo (8-6, 3.99 ERA), who’s had a nightmare stretch with a 10.13 ERA in his last four outings. Detroit tagged him for six runs last Sunday, but the Royals’ lineup has carried them despite shaky pitching.
