After a tumultuous 2021 campaign courtesy of ex-coach Brian Flores’ allegations of racist hiring and unusual practices against black coaches, the Miami Dolphins finally enter this new season with a clean slate with the hiring of Mike McDaniel as their new coach and a blockbuster trade for wide receiver Tyreek Hill. McDaniel’s loose and player’s coach style is a deep contrast to Flores’ character as an authoritarian and distant demeanor.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has had two rocky seasons as the starter for the Fins despite owning a 13-8 record but a vote of confidence was bestowed on him with Miami building the offense around the Alabama product. Along with Hill, Tagovailoa will retain the services of WR Jaylen Waddle, who had a fantastic rookie season with 104 catches for 1,015 yards and six scores. The Dolphins also signed wideout Cedrick Wilson from Dallas, who figures to be an effective slot receiver.
Marred by one of the worst offensive lines in the league last year, the Dolphins amped up on this unit by signing two talented blockers in Terron Armstead and Connor Williams. The improved blocking group should help the new rushing attack which is comprised of Raheem Mostert, Sony Michel and Chase Edmonds. The Dolphin’s defense was the catalyst behind the 8-1 stretch late in the season and figures to be much better entering this new campaign.
The Dolphins will be battle-tested early in the season with duels against the Patriots, Ravens, Bills and Bengals on their slate but it gets easier after that tough stretch.

The onus on the Dolphin’s season will be on Tagovailoa’s shoulders if he progresses as a signal-starter. While his supporting cast was alarmingly incompetent the past two seasons, the Dolphins’ front office did wonders in the offseason to give him the talent he needed to develop fittingly. Indeed, there are no excuses for Tagovailoa anymore and if he grows to be first-round pick he was destined to become, the Dolphins will undoubtedly be a playoff team.
Last year’s record: 9-8
My Prediction: 11-6
