WNBA Preview and Prediction: New York Liberty vs. Indiana Fever
Spread: New York -4.0 | Total: 172.0
New York Liberty Outlook:
The Liberty come into Saturday’s marquee matchup at 2-0, firing on all cylinders from deep after torching the Chicago Sky with a WNBA record-tying 19 threes in a 99-74 blowout. Natasha Cloud dropped four triples en route to 18 points, while sharpshooter Kennedy Burke went a perfect 4-for-4 off the bench. Despite the offensive fireworks, head coach Sandy Brondello wasn’t thrilled with her team’s execution, especially on the boards. New York pulled down only three offensive rebounds and was outrebounded overall 36-28. Brondello stressed that while the shooting was historic, both offensive fluidity and defensive discipline still need fine-tuning. Still, when eight players are hitting from long range, Liberty bettors have every reason to feel confident laying the points.
Indiana Fever Outlook:
After a rough one-point loss to Atlanta on Tuesday, the Fever (2-1) responded with grit on Thursday, beating the Dream 81-76 in a game where Caitlin Clark didn’t have to be the hero. That role went to Natasha Howard, who poured in 26 points while Indiana’s defense took a major step forward. Clark is still doing Clark things already setting records for 25-point, 10-assist games but it was Indiana’s improved screen defense and help-side rotations that sealed the win. Against a red-hot Liberty offense, that defensive sharpness will be critical. Expect Clark and Kelsey Mitchell to draw a tough perimeter matchup, but Indiana’s scoring depth could keep this one tighter than expected.
Prediction:
The Liberty’s long-range barrage will be tough to match, but Indiana’s defense is coming around and their home crowd will be a factor. If the Fever can control the glass and limit second-chance threes, they could hang around late.
Final Score Prediction: New York 89, Indiana 86
Best Bet: Indiana +4.0
Total: Over 172.0 – for the pace and offensive talent on both ends.
